Uniform Blues

I'm wearing my beret that was part of my old school uniform today. I added a number of brooches to give it a more "me" touch.theclotheshorse, fashion, style, daily outfitberet, brooches, fashion, personal, style
The little project reminded me of my old school uniform, so I dug up a few photos via facebook of the school uniform. I am conspicuously absent from these photos, because I never was a fan of the uniform, it's difficult to find heat-to-toe shots so I thought I might explain what the uniform consisted of. Starting at the bottom: black shoes, white socks with school logo (I still have a couple of pairs of these...), navy pleated skirt/white skirt in mass days, sailor blouse with cuffs and collar, navy "tie," and navy beret for mass days. There were also rules for hair color and jewelry.sacred hearts academy, uniformsacred hearts academy, uniform
The school was located in Hawaii, so girls with flowers in their hair aren't being "last season," it's a cultural symbol. If a girl wears a flower behind the right ear she is single, behind the left means she is taken.

I had to wear uniform for my elementary saga. We had red plaid skirts, white shirts, and navy sweaters. It wasn't too bad, except for during the winter, we froze. I wish we got neat berets like that. Having school in Hawaii sounds so cool!

Oh, uniforms. In middle school we wore kilts. There were also uniform pants that we could wear but they were so aggressively ugly that we all chose just to freeze instead.

I always preferred our elementary school uniforms ... they were jumpers. MUCH cuter, IMO.

Ah, uniforms are sweet and sour to me, some times I wish we had them, other times I dont.

Yes, I had to go through the whole uniform thing when I went to a private elementary school. We didn't have cute berets though!

Ayiyah! Uniforms the bane of my existence! Yours were much better than mines.

Thanks for sharing what the flower meant, while I've been to Maui on vacation all I learned was how to say "peace". I love it there thought, it's a beautiful and magical place, I could live there forever.

Oh and I love your boots, as always inspiring.

berets? you had to wear berets? in hawaii? christ, makes my friends school uniform so that much more hidious. i get off relativly scott-free in comperison. we just can't wear jeans or sneakers (and even that depends on what teachers you have.) last time i ever complain about dress pants.

oh man i had to wear a school uniform for 9 years of my life and it sucked. in lower school it was a yellow, white, or blue blouse with navy blue pants or an ugly plaid skirt. in middle school it was relatively the same, until 7/8 grade when we were allowed to wear shirts without logos and khakis, i was so excited, but then of course they changed it so that the middle school had a uniform of any colored polo and any colored pants except for white or jeans. finally in highschool i broke free! your beret is cute :)

An' if she wear it in her bun, it means "follow me..." :P

Ah, the uniforms. The funny thing is, the shirts were made for high schoolers so that our torsos would kinda look like boxes, hiding our curves. I don't know if this was deliberate or not, but it kind of gave everyone an asexual figure all through high school.

Although, for some reason, it also made my boobs look larger than they really were.

I love the beret! And the brooches make it even more amazing.

I've never worn a uniform. I'm not sure if I would like it or not.

I remember my old uniform too, there were less parts to it, but the hair and jewellry rules were very strict. Like studs only for earrings, no facial piercings etc.

your brooches look so cute on the beret. I am a spawn of the public education system, so if our straps were two fingers wide and you couldn't see our bellies, we were in the clear.

You went to school in Hawaii? AWESOME!

And the fact that you had to wear beret's on mass day, is kinda chic/cool too!

Quite possibly the cutest uniform I've ever seen! And English school uniforms aren't half bad either so that's saying something!

I think those uniforms are cute! I especially like the berets. I never had to wear a uniform, but sometimes I think it would have helped in my most awkward fashion phases.

I'm jealous! Navy berets? I love your uniform. Growing up in Japan I was jealous of all the girls in uniform(you could dress freely(within limit) at my school)....I loved the idea of not having the stress of thinking of what to wear each day but being able to individualize through accessories....

Blue Floppy Hat said...

You had berets? Cute...I grew up with school uniforms too, I don't think I'll ever be able to look at a pair of Mary Janes or a white pleated skirt without thinking 'uniform!'.

There were culottes in the summer. Enough said.

Did you happen to go to Sacred Hearts? I didn't know they had to wear berets as well. Good to see another Hawaii school person! (Don't worry, I'm not a stalker. Just thought the uniforms looked familiar.)
