It's still a little early to go into full-on holiday movie mode, though there will be plenty of that before this month is out, so my pick to start your December is the film
Kitty Foyle. Starring Ginger Rogers, this film is based on a novel of the same name (which I also recommend). Watch Rogers in a serious role as she plays a hard-working, white-collar girl from Pennsylvania. She is a strong independent woman who falls in love with a young socialite, to the horror of his family. Watch her struggle with social hierarchy, divorce, failed pregnancy and learning to stand on her own two feet. This is a serious film with a great heart and themes beyond the year (1940) it was released in. It won an Oscar and was nominated for four more. Ginger won't sing or dance, but she will still steal your heart.

ooh i rarely watch movies made before the 1960s but this one looks very entertaining
Hmm, sounds very intriguing!
Shall be giving that a try. Strong independant woman falls in love.. a little Pride and Prejudice, non?
Nice blog.
sounds wonderful!
I love that black and white image!! Are you a film major or something???
Cool.
I just added that to my Netflix queue.
My Holiday picks are Iggy Goes Down and WADD: The Life and Times of John C. Holmes.
Cheers.
I saw this a very long time ago when AMC still played only movies made before 1960. I recall it being her de-glam movie--her hair was dark for it and her clothes were very simple. Quite the contrast to my favorite Fred&Ginger musicals.
I loooove old movies -- I will definitely be tracking this one down!
Love you blog and hope you don't mind if I link you!
Hey Londyn, I'm only ever flattered when someone wants to link me. What is your blog? Blogger won't let me access your profile.
